
Doug, Stan and Jill have over 90 years of Mount Tom experience combined as campers, counselors, group leaders, administrators, parents and grandparents of Mount Tommers. They’re year-round camp professionals who work passionately to guarantee the greatest possible summer for each camper.
Doug Volan, Owner/Director, has been at Mount Tom for over 35 consecutive summers. His vision for the camp has been shaped by his deep and personal understanding of how a positive camp experience can influence a child’s sense of well-being and self-esteem. Doug, an attorney at law, has served as President of the New York State Camp Directors Association, President of the Rockland/ Westchester Day Camp Association, Organizational Advancement Oversight Chair of the American Camp Association and is a member of the Westchester County Camp Advisory Council. In these various positions, he has established himself as a leader in the camp industry.
Stan Friedmann began as a camper at Mount Tom at the age of five. Today, in his role as director, he oversees staff recruitment, training and evaluation and serves as a mentor to group leaders, specialists and administrators. He’s the father of three former Mount Tommers who were positively impacted by their experiences here. He’s also an award-winning author of children’s baseball books and has developed many successful programs for children, adolescents and adults.
Jill Newhouse is an expert in the field of early childhood education. She’s been the director of Mount Tom Day School and a director of Mount Tom Day Camp for over 25 years. Her knowledge and experience help provide the most positive and developmentally appropriate environment for our three to six year old campers. As the mother of three former Mount Tommers and grandmother of a current camper, she knows firsthand the benefits a young child will gain from camp.
